OUR SEDATION OPTIONS

Laughing Gas

Definition: A mild inhaled sedative that helps you feel calm during your procedure.

Sedation Depth: Minimal sedation—you remain awake, aware, and responsive.

Ideal For: Great for patients with mild to moderate anxiety or children.

Key Advantages: Fast-acting and wears off within minutes after the procedure.

Safety Protocols: Administered in-office and monitored throughout use.

Post-Procedure Recovery: Immediate recovery—you can typically drive yourself home.

Oral Sedation

Definition: A prescribed anti-anxiety medication taken prior to your appointment.

Sedation Depth: Varies by dose—ranging from minimal to moderate sedation.

Ideal For: Ideal for patients with dental anxiety, difficulty sitting for long periods, or mild medical concerns.

Key Advantages: Easy to take and highly effective in promoting calmness and relaxation.

Safety Protocols: Pre-evaluation required; patient is monitored throughout the appointment.

Post-Procedure Recovery: You’ll need a driver and someone to stay with you until effects wear off completely.

Non-Conscious Sedation (Deep Sedation)

Definition: A deeper level of sedation where you’re right on the edge of consciousness—relaxed, unaware of the procedure, but still responsive to stimuli.

Sedation Depth: Deep sedation—more profound than oral or nitrous, yet short of general anesthesia.

Ideal For: Best for patients with severe anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or complex procedures that take longer.

Key Advantages: High level of comfort with little to no memory of the procedure.

Safety Protocols: Constant monitoring of oxygen levels, heart rate, and blood pressure by trained personnel.

Post-Procedure Recovery: You’ll need time to rest post-treatment and must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home.

IV Moderate Sedation – MAC (Monitored Anesthesia Care)

Definition: Intravenous sedation administered by a licensed anesthesia provider for precision, comfort, and control.

Sedation Depth: Moderate sedation—you are semi-conscious, able to breathe independently, but typically won’t recall the procedure.

Ideal For: Ideal for surgical procedures (like implant placement), lengthy treatments, or patients with high dental anxiety or special needs.

Key Advantages: Highly predictable sedation level, adjustable in real time, and minimal patient awareness of the procedure.

Safety Protocols: Continuous monitoring of heart function, breathing, and vital signs; advanced equipment and trained anesthesia personnel on site.

Post-Procedure Recovery: You’ll be escorted to a recovery area post-treatment. Plan to rest for the day and have someone drive you home.
